Worry-Free

“A devout life does bring wealth, but it’s the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that’s enough” (1 Timothy 6:6-8)

The verses above may seem simple words, yet very peaceful and focused words. The NLT version says: “For we brought nothing into the world.” When the Spirit of God inspired those words through Paul, He knew what could easily weigh us down and also lead us amiss. Since, we brought nothing to this world (and its certain too that we won’t take them out), we must not be weighed down or become restless by them. Why? “But if it’s only money these leaders are after, they’ll self-destruct in no time. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after” (1 Timothy 6:9-10). No one wants that. The psalmist was also concerned about this when He concluded: “It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone” (Psalm 127:2). Yet he also concluded: “Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves?” (Psalm 127:2).

God does! Paul testified to this (Philippians 4) and in this confident trust he encouraged us to become worry-free saying: “You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, His generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Yes! Jesus affirmed this (Matthew 6:33), urging us to be focused on the kingdom life and certainly what we need will be added to us. Selah
