Why Look On Us?

“Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. So, when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? (Acts 3:11-12)
A man, renown to be lame from birth, was now seen by others, “walking, leaping, and praising God,” and the people marvelled. The people ran together towards Peter and John, but Peter queried them a needful question: “why look so intently at us?” Peter was quick to redirect their attraction to them and direct it rightly to Jesus. “The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus….” (Acts 3:12). He made it plain, it wasn’t by their “own power or godliness.”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7 says: “For God, who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
Peter emphasized: “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know.” Again, Peter emphasized: “Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16). So, we look on JESUS, His name and through Him! Praise the Lord.
