“We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First, we were loved, now we love. He loved us first” (1 John 4:19)
To truly love is first to know the love of God for us. As we do, we will know to love others correctly and genuinely. “God is love”, 1 John 4 says. It says on: “When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us.” God’s love wants to run our life. It desires a permanent place in our lives. The A to Z of our life’s journey in Christ is anchored in God’s redemptive love. Romans 5:8 declares: “God put His love on the line for us by offering His Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to Him.” So much value God has added to our lives through Jesus! Now, hear this: “If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of His Son, now that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of His resurrection life!” (Romans 5:10)
Let’s take a permanent residency in God’s love, which adds value to us and through us to others. For this love “is patient, kind, isn’t jealous, doesn’t sing its own praises, isn’t arrogant, isn’t rude, doesn’t think about itself, isn’t irritable, doesn’t keep track of wrongs, isn’t happy when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth, it never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up" (1 Corinthians 13).
