“But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison. But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went” (Acts 8:3-4)
Such is the powerful life of God that is within us! Though they were being scattered, yet wherever they went, they preached the Good News. The scattered ones became the gathering ones. Acts 8:5-6 says: “Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah. Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did.” Crowds listened intently and ultimately “there was great joy in that city” (Acts 8:8). The psalmist sang: “I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as You know. I do not hide Your righteousness in my heart; I speak of Your faithfulness and Your saving help. I do not conceal Your love and Your faithfulness from the great assembly” (Psalm 40:9-10).
May we not stop loving and serving the Lord in spite of any trial or challenge that might come our way. David fled from the palace of King Saul, yet people who were distressed, indebted and discontent “gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them” (1 Samuel 22). Moses had fled from Egypt, yet wearied at the well in Midian, he rescued and helped the daughters of Jethro who were harassed by shepherds (Exodus 2). Still gathering. Still spreading His fragrance. Nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God. Amen.
