“When Jesus heard about John, He withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. But the crowds found out about it and followed Him on foot from the towns. When He stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them…” (Matthew 14:13-14)

Herodias got what she wanted. She was pleased that John who sought to point her and Herod towards righteousness was no more. Jesus received the news of His cousin’s demise, yet who He is and what He stood for were foundations that could not be broken. Instead, this event led to a series of divine manifestations. How did Jesus step forward in strength? He was filled with compassion! In His compassion, Jesus “healed their sick.”

In that same place, in His compassion, seeing the people like sheep without a shepherd, “He began to teach them many things” (Mark 6:34). Again, in that same place, in His compassion, He saw their need to eat something for they had been with Him for a long time. They brought to Him five bread loaves and two fishes. So, “taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, Jesus spoke a blessing and broke the loaves. Then He gave them to His disciples to set before the people. And He divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied” (Mark 6:41:42). Glory!

From a seemingly broken state to a satisfied state. There was a sadness in the morning, but by evening, they were satisfied, because of Jesus! So, what do we think? “Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us?” There is no way! Unbreakable.
