“And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here” (Acts 16:26-28)

Certainly, God loved the jailer as He does for all people of the earth (John 3:16). This jailer was in charge of the prison where God’s servants, Paul and Silas had been imprisoned. He “thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks” (Acts 16:24). Yet, God used these temporal pains of Paul and Silas to bring about His goodness through/in their lives, towards the same jailer and even His entire family.

God had done the perfect same through Jesus for us. “But He (Jesus) was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Likewise, despite all the diverse pains that Joseph faced, he did come to a point where he soundly declared before his brothers: “But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive” (Genesis 50:20).

His purpose teaches us to look upon God and trust Him in the pain, for He can do a lot of good through it. Truly, Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Praise the Lord!
