“Your prophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from exile by pointing out your sins. Instead, they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope” (Lamentations 2:14)
Jeremiah lamented how Israel faced a difficult exile with hostile events which happened to them because they chose other gods and their ways. Yet some of the prophets made them to live under a false hope that all was well as Jeremiah tells us. The Message version says: “Your prophets courted you with sweet talk. They didn’t face you with your sin so that you could repent. Their sermons were all wishful thinking, deceptive illusions.” Sometimes, I had tried to dance around my sins instead of admitting them before the Lord and asking Him for His help. One of the great provisions we have through Jesus is to come and be healed and restored when we err. Matthew 1:21 says you shall "call Him Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins.” Hallelujah!
David did sing: “Our LORD, You bless everyone whose sins You forgive and wipe away. You bless them by saying, You told me your sins, without trying to hide them, and now I forgive you” (Psalm 32:1-2). Jesus conquered the problem of sin on the cross and He offers continually His way for us to stand. So, Hebrews 4:15-16 invites us joyfully: “Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because He was tempted in every way that we are. But He did not sin! So, whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help.” Amen!
