“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible” (Hebrews 11:3)

Let’s pause and consider these words. The truth of them is plain in the universe we see; the glory of the stars that beam at night, the steadiness of the moon that revolves around the earth, the wisdom of the sun that shines each day, the excellence of a tender plant that breaks through the ground, and so much more. The harmony and orderliness of all created things reveal the sustaining power of God’s creative word. Hebrews 1:3 says the Son (who is the Word) “is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.”

Hence, the psalmist declared that the word of God is “perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes” (Psalm 19:7-8). The word makes alive. Look at all in Christ. We’ve been “born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1:23). The word is imperishable.

So, let us continually receive and accept the Word. Paul testified about the Thessalonians: “And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). The word works. Glory to Jesus!
