“But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land” (Exodus 23:29-30)

Someone said: ‘Whatever controls your mind, controls your identity.’ Whatever controls our identity surely controls us. We can avoid frustrations in life’s journey when we know the mind of God for us. God promised a new beginning to the children of Israel, yet He said: “I will drive them out before you LITTLE BY LITTLE until YOU BECOME FRUITFUL...” Little by little? Why not at once? At once may not be good for us. We mustn’t focus so tightly on ‘little by little.’ Instead, we focus on becoming more and more fruitful, which is our part-responsibility. God’s wisdom knew that if they be driven out in a single year “that the land may not become desolate....”

Proverbs 13:11b also says: “Whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” God’s wisdom helps us overcome frustrations, grumblings and even cursing. Our Father is the Good Shepherd, who knows better where His sheep can graze, when to graze and how to graze. Thankfully, we have the mind the Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), so that we can hear His voice and know His thoughts. 1 Corinthians 2:12 affirms: “We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.” Hallelujah!

Father, lead us beside Your quiet waters and refresh our souls. Guide us along the right paths for Your name’s sake in Jesus’ name. Amen.
