“Now Philip, Andrew, and Peter had all grown up together in the village of Bethsaida. Philip went to look for his friend, Nathanael, and told him, “We’ve found him! We’ve found the One we’ve been waiting for! It’s Jesus, son of Joseph from Nazareth! He’s the One whom Moses and the prophets prophesied would come!” (John 1:44-45)

I have been found! We’ve found! Come and find! Philip had been found by Jesus. John 1:43 recounts: “The next day, Jesus decided to go to Galilee, where He found Philip. Jesus said to him, ‘Come and follow me.’” This is one of the iconic words in the chapter: FOUND. The words Philip spoke to Nathanael were few, but in them we hear his joy. Even when Nathanael sneered at Philip saying: “Nazareth! What good thing could ever come from Nazareth?” Philip answered, “Come and let’s find out!” (John 1:46). We may literally picture Philip pulling Nathanael by the hand, urging him to drop whatever was before him, to come and see Him. Andrew likewise found. He first “found his brother, Simon Peter, and told him, “We have found the Anointed One! Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus” (John 1:41-42).

Aren’t we grateful and joyful that we have been found by Jesus? So, let’s tell someone, that someone that we have found the Messiah. Luke 1:14 says about the birth of John the Baptist: “He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth.” If the birth of John brought this much joy, even much more will the news of Jesus bring long-lasting joy (John 16:24)!
