“I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. We keep looking to the Lord our God for His mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy” (Psalm 123:1-3)

The goodness of the Lord brings us into a new season. As we have lifted our eyes in past times to Him, so may we lift them up again. This is the posture of every humble heart: “I lift my eyes to You, O God, enthroned in heaven,” recognising the superiority of God. Psalm 34:5-6 declares: “Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.” Praise the Lord! This is true because in Jesus “what came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out” (John 1:4-5). In His light, we see light (Psalm 36:9)!

The nature of His life and its light is everlasting so there’s a supply of His mercy. Sometimes, the mercy of God is underrated in our hearts, yet we find in these few verses above that the psalmist asked for God’s mercies thrice saying: “We KEEP LOOKING to the Lord our God for His mercy.” It’s not a one-off, but continual. The servant who knows the capacity of His master keeps his eyes on him and waits upon him. “So, let’s walk right up to Him and get what He is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help” (Hebrews 4:16). Amen.
