“Your glorious throne rests on a foundation of righteousness and just verdicts. Grace and truth are the attendants who go before you” (Psalm 89:14)

God’s endless throne, a place of power, decision and destinies, is founded on two pillars: righteousness and justice. We are called to love both. Wherever righteousness and justice are absent, wickedness instead will thrive. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 exhorts us saying: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Righteousness teaches us what is right to do and justice tells us to uphold what is right to do. In 1 Kings 3, Solomon established his throne like God’s when two prostitutes came before him. One desired wickedness, but the other righteousness and justice. 1 Kings 3:28 would say: “When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice.” There was peace. Isaiah 32:17-18 says: "The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” What Solomon did, Jesus called the weightier matters of the law: “justice, mercy, and faith" (Matthew 23:23).

So, Isaiah 1:17 urges us: “Learn to do right; seek justice and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless and plead the case of the widow.” As God’s word Himself purges us to know what is right and just to do, He assures: “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best of the land” (Isaiah 1:19). Amen.
