Spoken Hastily?

“I spoke hastily when I said, ‘The Lord has deserted me.’ For in truth, you did hear my prayer and came to rescue me. Listen to me, all you godly ones: Love the Lord with passion! The Lord protects and preserves all those who are loyal to Him. But he pays back in full all those who reject him in their pride. So, cheer up! Take courage, all you who love Him. Wait for Him to break through for you, all who trust in Him!” (Psalm 31:22-24)
“Take courage” the psalmist exhorts. You who love Him “Wait for Him” and “trust in Him.” The psalmist was honest that he had spoken hastily. “The Lord has deserted me.” No He hasn’t! He “protects and preserves all those who are loyal to Him.” He promised never to leave us or forsake us. He is also not slow as Peter reveals. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). It is actually us, who count slowness on our own hasty terms. Ecclesiastes 5:2 says: “Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.” Why is this needful? “God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.” “Lord, how wonderful you are! You have stored up so many good things for us, like a treasure chest heaped up and spilling over with blessings—all for those who honour and worship you! Everybody knows what You can do for those who turn and hide themselves in you” (Psalm 31:19)! Everyone knows!
