“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose Him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory” (1 Peter 1:18-21)
Praise Jesus! Such wondrous things! Something to know. I had an empty life inherited from my ancestors. This means worthlessness. Something to know. God decided to pay a ransom to save me (and you). Something to know. He didn’t pay with gold or silver, which can lose their value. They weren’t worth enough. So, silver or gold can’t be our glory. Something to know.
God paid with the sinless, spotless and precious blood of Christ! This means pricelessness. Whatever the blood of Christ is worth before God, this is our worth! When we trusted Jesus, God took us from worthless to priceless. These truths we must know, and these truths must be unwavering in our lives because 1 Peter 1:22a says: “You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth.”
O the wealth of divine love displayed to and in us. How then do we prove our worth? Peter wrote: “So now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart” (1 Peter 1:22b). Love is a proof that we know.
