“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3)
It’s needful to embrace each season. Not every season is a harvest yet every season has its blessing. Luke 1:80 says about John: “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.” In this season, John grew and waxed strong in spirit, yet he was in the desert. Interestingly, ‘to wax’ means he continued to increase! Likewise, Luke 2:40 records about our Lord Jesus: “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him.” Just as the tree that is planted by the rivers of water continues to grow, so did Jesus and John. An inspired Paul wrote: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction” (2 Timothy 4:2). The NLT says “Be prepared, whether the time is favourable or not.” It’s not going to be delightful in every season. Some seasons will certainly correct us, some will be for a U-turn, yet there are seasons for reassurance, and all these seasons must be nurtured with “great patience and careful instruction.”
Hence, we’re exhorted: “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains” (James 5:7). May we remain the planting of the Lord, in His words, in His love and His instructions for His glory. Amen.
