Genesis 50:22,24

Promise Keeper

“Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children… …Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” (Genesis 50:22,24)

These verses reveal a key aspect of Joseph’s life. He knew and walked in God’s promise. God had said to Abraham: “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions” (Genesis 15:13-14). Joseph knew and held onto God’s promise.

This may also explain why we don’t read about Joseph grumbling in Potiphar’s house, in the prison or the palace. Psalm 19 says: “The Law of the Lord is perfect; it gives us new life. His teachings last forever, and they give wisdom to ordinary people. The Lord’s instruction is right; it makes our hearts glad. His commands shine brightly, and they give us light. Worshiping the Lord is sacred; He will always be worshiped. All of His decisions are correct and fair. They are worth more than the finest gold and are sweeter than honey from a honeycomb. By Your teachings, Lord, I am warned; by obeying them, I am greatly rewarded.” There is great peace and strength in knowing God’s promises and trusting them. They help us stand even in trials. Help us Jesus to know/trust You and Your promises. AMEN
