“Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelations 14:12)

This is a reassuring testimony about God’s children spoken through His angel, revealed to John concerning the times of the end. We know that the end of all things will surely come, and the virtues mentioned will help us to be patiently focused even in the face of earthly persecutions.

First of all, “keep the commandments of God.” 1 John 5:3-4 encourages: “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” May this truth boost us to keep His words. Jesus said: “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another” (John 13:34). Paul, inspired by the Spirit, wrote: “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5). The love of God at work in us is powerful for “love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8). Hallelujah!

Secondly, we keep “the faith of Jesus.” Jesus initiated this journey of faith with us. So, Hebrews 12:2 mightily says: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Likewise, Philippians 1:6 cheers: “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Hallelujah!

Father, help us to walk patiently yet joyfully in the love command and faith of Jesus by the strength of Your Spirit! Amen.
