“They conquered him completely through the blood of the Lamb and the powerful word of his testimony. They triumphed because they did not love and cling to their own lives, even when faced with death” (Revelations 12:11)
They conquered him (devil) completely! When Jesus spoke on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30), He meant those words. First, Revelations 12:11 tells us this victory started “through the blood of the Lamb.” John proclaimed: “Look! There he is—God’s Lamb! He takes away the sin of the entire world” (John 1:29). Hallelujah! It’s a sacrifice Jesus did once and for all. The priests never sat down because they offered year after year. However, Jesus “offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:12). Hallelujah! Of a necessity, we must continually place our faith solely in the finished, eternally perfect work of Jesus.
Secondly, the victory was won through the “powerful word of His testimony.” This means we witness about Jesus and our faith in His victory to others. Jesus told His disciples: “But you'll receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you'll be My witnesses…” (Acts 1:8) and they triumphed in this because they didn’t cling to a self-life. Jesus said: “Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity” (John 12:25). A writer said: ‘The Christian victory is a victory of dependence and of obedience.’ Let’s learn to depend on Jesus for without Him we are nothing and let's learn to obey Him, for in keeping His word there is great reward. Amen.
