“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in His steps. He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when He was insulted, nor threaten revenge when He suffered. He left His case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly” (1 Peter 2:21-23)

We belong to a kingdom where our calling is to do good, with goodness as a lifestyle, even in difficult times. Our example, Peter rightly says, is our Saviour Himself: Jesus. Acts 10:38 summarises His life and times: “And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” The anointing does good. God and goodness are one and the same, for goodness is a witness of God’s abiding presence. When Jesus was insulted and faced unjust sufferings, He neither retaliated nor threatened revenge. Instead, He left all in God’s hands “who always judges fairly.” This just Judge is our Heavenly Father, so we will ultimately win! It looked like Jesus lost when He was cruelly crucified, but He’s resurrected, He lives forever more with a name above all names! Hallelujah! So, God called us to do good. Romans 12 exhorts: “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone… Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath… On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink… Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
