“But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless” (1 Corinthians 15:57-58)
The journey of life does bring with it a myriad of diverse challenges. We can be pressed, even as believers, to give up. However, the word of life rightly reveals to us God has dealt with the weakening power of sin and death through the resurrecting power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:21 says: “So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” This brings us first into the realm of thanksgiving to our Lord. Now, because of what Jesus did, we become “strong and immovable.” Now, we should “always work enthusiastically for the Lord.” Now, we know that “nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” The Passion Translation says “we are assured that our union with the Lord makes our labour productive with fruit that endures.” Not useless but fruitful because of our union with Christ. Paul did admit cheerfully: “But God’s amazing grace has made me who I am! And His grace to me was not fruitless…. His empowering grace is poured out upon me” (1 Corinthians 15:10).
We remember: “God is always fair. He will remember how you helped His people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and He won't forget the love you have shown His people” (Hebrews 6:10). Nothing for the Lord is ever useless.
