“And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of His mercy and His truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren” (Genesis 24:27)

These are the praise-words of Eleazar, Abraham’s trusted servant, towards God. He had just witnessed so greatly how God led him in His truth and helped him in His mercy to find a spouse (Rebecca) for Abraham’s son Isaac. He remarks two great qualities of God that we surely need: His mercy and His truth. They enrich lives. The mercy of God speaks of His unfailing generosity. Lamentations 3:22-24 declares: “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out; His merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great Your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.”

God’s truth speaks of His prevailing justice and righteousness. Psalms 89:14 declares: “Your throne is founded on two strong pillars—the one is Justice and the other Righteousness. Mercy and Truth walk before You as Your attendants.” Hallelujah! In fact, Psalm 85:10 speaks of mercy and truth this way: “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.” A blessed intimacy!

Eleazar praised God that His mercy and His truth didn’t make them destitute! Now, to these things, John 1:17 also says: “grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” In Jesus, we too shall not be destitute as we walk in His mercy and His truth. Praise the Lord!
