No Waiting?

“From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?” So, he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him as long as David was in the stronghold” (1 Samuel 22:3-4)

David was restless. He had fled from Saul (1 Samuel 21). He "went to King Achish of Gath," but his identity was unveiled and he became afraid. After pretending to be mad, he fled again to the cave of Adullam. While at this cave “all those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him” (1 Samuel 22:2). His siblings and relatives came too. A great load to bear, but at this point David made a needful decision. He said the Moab’s king: “Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you UNTIL I LEARN what God will do for me.”

Until I learn… The urgency was real and intense, but David resolved to learn what God will do for him. As he stayed in his stronghold, his comfort zone, a prophet called Gad advised him: “Leave the stronghold and return to the land of Judah.’ So David went to the forest of Hereth.” This call to leave his stronghold for Judah couldn’t have been simple, but a call to depend on God. Is there an ‘urgent’ decision to take? Let’s start in God. He promises: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31) to walk and to run.
