“With praise and thanksgiving, they sang to the Lord: ‘He is good; His love toward Israel endures forever.’ And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid” (Ezra 3:11)

David sang with understanding saying: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1). Thanksgiving glorifies God. “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving” (Psalm 69:30). God Himself said: “Those who sacrifice thank offerings honour Me” (Psalm 50:23). O yes, it is a good thing. A songwriter did sing: ‘Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ the Son.’ God gave us His best when He gave us Jesus.

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:31-32). With Jesus comes everything that is priceless and long-lasting. This is a foundation laid by God Himself that should always be grateful for above everything else. This foundation was orchestrated by God’s lasting love. This is surely worthy of thanks to Him. God’s love overruns the ‘bad days’ and crowns the ‘good days.’ Hallelujah!

This is why it is God’s will for us to give thanks; it’s a healthy, life-giving habit. May we always be full of thanks to God. “Thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Amen.
