“My dear, dear friends! I love you so much. I do want the very best for you. You make me feel such joy, fill me with such pride. Don’t waver. Stay on track, steady in God” (Philippians 4:1)

These are the Spirit’s words through Paul to the saints in Philippi, and these words reflect unmistakably God’s thought for each of His children. God calls us friends. Jesus said to His disciples: “I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friends because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from the Father” (John 15:15). Privilege!

Secondly, God loves us very much. See the cross. “If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing Himself to the worst by sending His own Son, is there anything else He wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?” (Romans 8:32). Privilege! Thirdly, He wants the best for us. “God offers a full report on the gifts of life and salvation that He is giving us. We don’t have to rely on the world’s guesses and opinions” (1 Corinthians 2:11). We bring great joy to Him.

So, let’s continue to learn of Jesus and walk in and with Him. He gives us two attentions to keep us going. “Don’t waver.” We must not lose heart at any time, no matter what comes. “Stay on track, steady in God.” God is like a ship and we are in it. So, we sail on, led by our Captain, observing His example: Jesus “the Author and Perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Selah!
