More Than A Seed 🌱

“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives” (John 12:24)
Jesus was telling His disciples about the physical death He would undergo. It had a great spiritual impact for humanity. He knew the death (a separation) was going to be difficult, yet He also decided not to avoid it (John 12:27). He understood that it was a needful thing to be done (John 12:27). What encouraged Him? “He would draw all men to Himself!” (John 12:32). Jesus didn’t look back. A seed needs to be buried in the ground and that’s painful. However, in that process, it would have to rely on someone or something else for its existence. It will need the soil of grace and the water of the Word. In the Christian’s life, this is the work of the Holy Spirit, who works in us both to will and to do of God’s good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)! It was He who raised Jesus (Romans 8:11)! Gradually yet surely, the seed grows roots and ultimately bears fruits! If a seed decides not to die, it remains alone, and this isn’t profitable (John 12:25). If a man decides to live outside of God’s influence, he will have no need of God’s reviving grace. However, we do!
Maybe the Lord has shown the next step to take on a subject and it does not look pleasant, because the thought of the pain is overshadowing the future gains. However, the Spirit that quickened Jesus is the same in us! God’s word assures us: Whatever He start, He completes (Philippians 1:6).
