“There are so many reasons to describe God as wonderful! So many reasons to praise Him with unlimited praise! Zion-City is His home; He lives on His holy mountain— high and glorious, joy-filled and favoured. Zion-Mountain looms in the farthest reaches of the north, the city of our incomparable King! This is his divine abode, an impenetrable citadel, for He is known to dwell in the highest place” (Psalm 48:1-3)

Hearing these words should stir up confidence in God. Truly as scriptures say: “Safety is of the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31). Hence, Colossians 3:3 gives us this wonderful insight: “Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ.” Hidden away in God in Christ! Psalm 48 continues: “The kings of the earth have arrived together to inspect the city. They marvel at the sight and hurry home again, afraid of what they have seen; they are filled with panic like a woman in travail!” There’s some humour we can picture from these verses, seeing men coming in arrogant kingly attires, but fleeing at the marvels of God’s presence. Are such oppressors before you? God, our incomparable King. is a Defender, who can even “destroy the mightiest warships with a breath of wind” (Psalm 48:7).

So, lets abide in His presence and joyfully “meditate upon His kindness and His love.” His name is “known throughout the earth” and He is “praised everywhere for the salvation” He has scattered throughout the world (Psalm 48:9-10). So, rejoice “for God will see to it that you are finally treated fairly” (Psalm 48:11). For this great God is our God forever and ever. Amen.
