“I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He lifted me up from the pit of despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD” (Psalm 40:1-4)
The Passion Translation says: “I waited and waited and waited some more, patiently, knowing God would come through for me.” There’s nothing weak about ‘waiting patiently’ for the Lord, for “those who wait upon God get fresh strength” (Isaiah 40:31). Praise the Lord! God inclined His ear timely, a passionate gesture of leaning to hear. He’s always surveying His magnificent heavens and earth (Psalm 113). The Psalmist would describe ALL the gracious deeds the Lord did. “He lifted me up” out of a pit of hopelessness. Paul, God’s great servant had this testimony: “We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since He’s the God who raises the dead!” (2 Corinthians 1:8-11)
As we wait patiently upon the Lord, we'll set our feet firmly on the rock. He’ll give new songs that many will see and fear and also trust Him. Amen.
