“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 1:12-14)

A songwriter famously sang and thanked: “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” We need to tell others and let them know that there is a God whose mercy is sufficient! Paul described himself as the worst of sinners: a blasphemer, a persecutor and a violent man (murderer), but God showed him mercy!

We need to let them know. God forgave Paul’s ignorance and unbelief. God still does. What did God bring in exchange? Through His manifold mercies, Paul, like anyone who turns to the Lord, received the grace that is abundant and sufficient for his type of life. The grace that demolished and overcame the tag of a blasphemous, violent persecutor that he was.

Oh “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (1 Timothy 1:15). In addition, Paul (like us) received faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. They are sourced in Him! Hallelujah! Hence, Paul would pray for Timothy: “Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord” (1 Timothy 1:2).

We need to let them know. “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
