“Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord. And he said, “Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren” (Genesis 24:26-27)

Abraham had sent his servant Eleazar to his kindred to look for a wife for his son Isaac. After this servant had prayed, he was graciously led to meet Rebekah and there after their dialogue, he declared the faithfulness of God: “Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master.” God’s mercy and truth. They lead us in the purpose and will of God for our lives. How priceless they are. Mercy is a light for our path, bringing the kindness of God to us. By it, we are not consumed (Lamentations 3:22-23). It was by His mercies that Jesus was revealed to us. John 1:17 tells us that “grace and truth came through Jesus.” Truth is also a light for our path. Hence, Proverbs 23:23 enjoins us: “Buy the truth, and do not sell it….” The psalmist likewise sang to the Lord: “Show me Your ways, O LORD… Lead me by Your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You” (Psalm 25:4-5). Amen.

As God led Abraham’s servant by His mercy and His truth, so He desires to guide us too. Father, thank You. We come to You. We receive Your mercies which are new every day. Thank You for Your truth that will guide us today in Jesus’ name. Amen.
