“You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and You lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain” (Psalm 139:1-4)

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me” says the psalmist. We may not fully comprehend it yet, but we can fully embrace it. The Lord who “created my inmost being” is the same Lord who “knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). If He made it so, then He is able all by Himself to care for us. Walking through different dimensions of life, Paul would be inspired to pray for us that we “may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge," that we “may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:18-19). We may have seen a depth yet there is a height, a length, even a width of our all-compassing Father.

Our Father possesses unquenchable love over hate, knowledge surpassing peace over anxiety, unspeakable joy over sadness, enduring patience over trials and persecutions, impartial kindness and goodness over self-centredness, prevailing faithfulness over faithlessness, beautifying meekness over pride and strength of spirit over wandering thoughts. Father, may this truth and knowledge of Christ dwell through faith in our hearts. Amen!
