“See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:12-13)
There’s every good reason for us to encourage one another daily. An encouragement can rescue from sin’s clutches. Sin works through deceit, seeking to make hearts unbelieving, causing a turning away from the living God. So, God says “See to it” meaning ‘take charge in this.’ It also means to exhort, to correct and to help. It’s the love of God calling us into this. Peter writes likewise about this: “The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay” (1 Peter 4:7-9).
Paul, while in Macedonia was downcast and he wrote: “For when we arrived in Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were pressed from every direction—conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the arrival of Titus” (2 Corinthians 7:6). He was encouraged! When Paul received further reports about the saints, he rejoiced and said: “In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you” (2 Corinthians 7:13). It became mutual! Who needs a word from you or your presence? May God’s grace enable us today and always however He leads. Amen.
