“But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honours Me. If you keep to My path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:23)
There are many uplifting virtues about thanksgiving. The most profound of them is spoken by God Himself: “a sacrifice that truly honours Me.” This makes it obvious why the adversary wouldn't want anyone to make it their lifestyle. So, he trips us about what we don’t have, expectations we say were not met and so on. In plain terms, he makes us faithless so we will forget God (Psalm 50:22). However, thanksgiving releases and preserves our faith in God. “Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). The will of God is His perfect thought for us, so it can’t lead us astray. So, thanksgiving gives us wisdom’s light and drives away confusion. Romans 1:21 says: “Yes, they knew God, but THEY WOULDN’T worship Him as God or even give Him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.”
Therefore, thanksgiving recognises that there is a source and it frees us from depending on our limited selves. The psalmist discerned: “I will give thanks to You because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this” (Psalm 139:14). Hallelujah! David spoke these words realising: “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar” (Psalm 139:1-2). May our souls continually come to this awareness too in Jesus’ name. Let’s give thanks!
