“I’m glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess—happy that you’re again showing such strong concern for me. Not that you ever quit praying and thinking about me. You just had no chance to show it. Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally… It was a beautiful thing that you came alongside me in my troubles” (Philippians 4:10-11, 14)
Paul the Apostle was indeed a thankful man. We all need to be thankful in all seasons of our lives and for the things done for us by others. “Thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). In the opening verse, Paul expressed his gladness that the brethren renewed their interest in him, by showing a concern for his needs. This is the focus of today’s encouragement.
Do we need to renew our interest in the life of another? Is there someone we need to turn again towards and show a hand of mercy or forgiveness or kindness? Galatians 6:9-10 inspires us: “So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.”**For reasons unmentioned, the believers in Philippi didn’t get a chance to do it, but now they did. Everything restarts with a renewed thought (Romans 12:1-2). May the Holy Spirit guide our hearts to see what He wants us to do. Amen.
