“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:13-14)

Every godly influence on others glorifies God and can reach far. ‘Salt of the EARTH’ and light of the WORLD' Jesus said. We're valuable! So, we must pray to the Lord that we lose not our saltiness and hide not our light. In Galatians 2:12, the Word of God says about Peter, an apostle and church leader: “For before certain men came from James, he (Peter) used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.” Out of fear, Peter hid the light of Christ yet his influence, negative in this instance, had some effect. Paul penned: “The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray” (Galatians 2:13). Thankfully, Paul, “acting in line with the truth of the gospel” (Galatians 2:14), shone the light of Christ in that situation.

It was the influence of a young unnamed slave girl that showed Naaman, a leprous Syrian warlord, the healing grace of God. She said: “If only my master would go to the prophet who is in Samaria….” The Bible records that “Naaman went and told his master what the girl from the land of Israel had said…” (2 Kings 5:3-4). Her words didn’t stop at Naaman. They reached his master’s ears too! O Father, strengthen us continually that our every word and act bring the life-light of Jesus to others. Amen.
