“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:18-20)
If there is a virtue that we need for this life and beyond, it is the hope that God brings. His hope gives strength and it lasts. Romans 5:5 says about this hope: “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Hope gives us flight over anything that seeks to pull or weigh us down in this earth. Peter spoke about the preciousness of this hope: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
Not a dead or fading hope, but a living hope. God works this hope in us through the Holy Spirit in us. The power that raised up Jesus, which brought us into a living hope, is the same power now at work in us. Praise the Lord! Let’s believe it. Father, enlighten our hearts that we may believe and receive Your truth for our lives. Amen.
