His Presence

“God said, ‘My presence will go with you. I’ll see the journey to the end.’ Moses said, ‘If your presence doesn’t take the lead here, call this trip off right now’” (Exodus 33:14)

Having God’s presence is everything. It’s not about a buoyant city or a good job, but His presence. In Genesis 13, Lot, in deciding where to choose, “looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered” and he went, but twice he faced losses. Abraham seemed like the loser, but God was there with him. God said: “I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession.” In Genesis 39, it didn’t matter where Joseph was: in Potiphar’s house, the prison or the palace. He excelled progressively because God was with Him (Genesis 39:2, 23). God had sent Him ahead (Psalm 105:17).

David sang: “Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit?... If I climb to the sky, You’re there! If I go underground, You’re there!” (Psalm 139:7-8). So, to know and follow God’s plan for us is needful because “it is the LORD's purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). Anyone who points others to Christ will always find God’s presence. It does not matter what the vocation is. Daniel, an administrator, wrote: “Those who put others on the right path to life will glow like stars forever” (Daniel 12:3). Hence, Jesus said: “God authorized and commanded Me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life… instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20). Spirit, guide us. Amen.
