“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. And I will continue to teach you the good and right way” (1 Samuel 12:23)
Here we find a very passionate statement from the Prophet Samuel to the children of Israel. He considered not praying for these people, whom he guided as a judge, as a sin against God. He’s actually stating that praying for them is something that is so right to do in God’s sight. It’s worthy to pray for those whom we lead or guide in any capacity; for colleagues, for friends, for workers and surely the brethren. Paul wrote to the Colossians saying: "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives….” Again, he wrote for the Ephesians saying: “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.…” Each time he asked that God may give “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better” (Ephesians 1:6). This is the same mindset with which Samuel prayed for the Israelites.
James 5:16 says: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” There’s a healing that can come when we pray in faith for one another. May the love of Christ fill our hearts one for another. Amen.
