“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God” (Revelations 21:4)
This verse deeply speaks of certain truths about God’s passion for man, His desire through all ages. It all started in Eden’s Garden where God showed His purpose for man. Genesis 1:26-27 tells us: “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…’ So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them.” God wants His dwelling place to be among His people. It wasn’t about rules and laws or do’s and don’ts, but a place of unending fellowship in likeness! Jesus gives us this insight where He says: “Remain in Me, as I also remain in you” (John 15:4). The heart of God is to remain, to dwell continually in us! Again, Jesus declares in His prayer to the Father: “I have given them the glory that you gave Me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity” (John 17:22-23).
God truly wants to be my God and your God. Acts 17:26-27 says: “From one man He made all the nations… He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us.” The Lord who is near! So, the call of James appeals to us even more. Father, we draw near to You knowing You are near to us. Amen.
