“We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The mention of tests is scarcely greeted with excitement, yet Paul states its normal for every human being. We surely have faced tests such as in schools. Nevertheless, God’s faithfulness does stand sure in the midst of all the tests He allows. God Himself left us an example when Jesus, the faultless and sinless One, was also tested. Luke’s account actually says: “He was taken by the Spirit from the Jordan into the wilderness of Judea to experience for forty days the ordeal of testing by the accuser” (Luke 4:2). Being “taken by the Spirit” is the assurance of God’s presence! His assured presence guarantees that He will “screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test” for He knows the frame of everyone. He’s too righteous to allow a test He knows we aren’t able to bear. What would such a test achieve in us? Paul states: “Each test is an opportunity to trust Him more.” Our first parents (Adam and Eve) were tested too, but they didn’t trust God. Jesus was tested concerning God’s ability to provide, protect and empower, and He trusted God.

Facing a test? The Spirit of grace is present. He provides a way of escape. He will bring you out victoriously! Amen.
