“God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning—Day Six” (Genesis 1:31)

Such an exceptional way to sum the completeness of God’s creation. For five days, on each day, the Word of God records in cheerfulness and in glory, God’s own verdict of His handiwork: “God saw that it was good.” And on the sixth day, they were summed: “It was so good, so very good.” The Holy Spirit reminds us never to look away from this everlasting truth that God is good. It’s a good and faithful starting point irrespective of any situation before us.

God is good. When a ruler called Jesus the Good Master, Jesus did respond by saying: “Why do you question me about what’s good? God is the One who is good. If you want to enter the life of God, just do what He tells you.” Jesus says the Father tells us what to do to enter His life, His good life! God is good. We learn goodness from God. Psalm 145:9 declares: “God is good to one and all; everything He does is soaked through with grace.” Our Good Father is the one who decided the earth’s size, who came up with its blueprints and measurements. He poured its foundations and set its cornerstone. He took charge of the oceans, and He orders the morning to get up and the dawn to get to work. He can seize the earth like a blanket, He knows where light comes from and where darkness lives. He even teaches the lioness how to get its food and satisfy its cubs. God is good.
