Have You Thanked?

“Have you thanked Him today?” The Spirit expressly asks. “Say thank you to the Lord for being so good, for always being so loving and kind” (Psalm 107:1). We thank God for what He has done and we also thank God for who He is. The Word of God says he’s “always being so loving and kind.” Always is continually. Again, God’s word says: “For the Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and His faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation” (Psalm 100:5). Since the Lord is good, His faithfulness hasn’t ceased, succeeding generation after generation. So, the patriarchs acknowledged that He’s the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So, we thank God even for the things He hasn't done. “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 136:1).
Jesus taught us that we should thank the living God even in a time of uncertainty or scarcity. Standing before about five thousand hungry and tired men (not counting the women and children), “Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish” (John 6:11). As much as they wanted. Likewise, standing before a weeping crowd, at the graveside of Lazarus, Jesus said: “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me” (John 11:41).
David sang: “If you are really wise, you’ll think this over— it’s time you appreciated God’s deep love” (Psalm 107:43). So, it’s a wise thing to thank God! If it’s a wise thing, surely, it’s a good thing! Come now, let’s give Him thanks!
