“Say thank you to the Lord for being so good, for always being so loving and kind. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others…” (Psalm 107:1-2)

“Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” Four times in this psalm, the psalmist rallied this chant. The goodness of God commands thanksgiving from us. Yes, it does. The reasons are assorted. The greatest of His acts to us: He redeemed us through Jesus! We “once wandered in the wilderness like desert nomads, with no true direction or dwelling place” (Psalm 107:4). We were “starving, thirsting, staggering, we became desperate and filled with despair” (Psalm 107:5). But when we cried out: “Lord, help us! Rescue us!” And He did!” (Psalm 107:6). He “led us out by the right way” into the haven of Jesus. We remember “how He satisfies the souls of thirsty ones and fills the hungry with goodness!” (Psalm 107:9). We also remember when we “once sat in darkness, living in the dark shadows of death, we were prisoners to our pain, chained to our regrets,” even times when we went contrary to His Word and His counsel (Psalm 107:10). Yet when we cried to Him: “Lord, help us! Rescue us!” And He did!” (Psalm 107:13). His light broke through the darkness and He led us out in freedom from death’s dark shadow and snapped every one of our chains (Psalm 107:14).

Surely, our conclusion must always be: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1). So, let’s give Him thanks due to His glory and noise all His works everywhere!
