“And the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. Now in those days the word of the LORD was rare and visions were scarce… Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him” (1 Samuel 3:1,7)

The Holy Spirit draws us to consider the boy Samuel who “ministered to the LORD before Eli" though at the time he “did not yet know the LORD.” He was familiar with ministering along with Eli, knowing only Eli, but he hadn’t known the LORD personally. The reason stated was the “word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.” John the Baptist did say: “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven” (John 3:27). Samuel kept growing in the LORD (1 Samuel 3:19), as he ministered to God and God, as always, was willing to reveal Himself to Samuel (as He desires to do with us). On the day God revealed Himself “Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was located” (1 Samuel 3:3). He was in God’s presence. God knew Samuel was ready to receive.

God desires to speak to us Himself. Jesus, quoting Isaiah 54:13, said: “‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me.” Our Father “revealed Himself to Samuel by His word” (1 Samuel 3:21). Let’s practice being in His presence everywhere. James 4:8 assures us: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Delightsome to know that our Father wants to teach/speak to us Himself. Selah
