“God, You’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble— more than enough and always available whenever I need you” (Psalm 46:1)

The King James version says: ""God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."" A refuge is a safe place. When a people are displaced from their homes, they are brought into such a refuge. Man’s provisions doesn’t always guarantee peace, but God’s does. God Himself is that place! ""The name of the Lord is a strong fortress, the godly run into it and are safe"" (Proverbs 18:10). Jesus said it this way: ""I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows, but take heart because I have overcome the world"" (John 16:33). Praise the Lord!

So, this calls us to have faith in the Lord who is on our side. Then, we too can sing: ""So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, moving mountains and casting them into the sea. For the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves cannot erode our faith in you"" (Psalm 46:2-3). Why? Now we know that “God has a constantly flowing river whose sparkling streams bring joy and delight to His people. His river flows right through the city of God Most High, into his holy dwelling places. God is in the midst of his city, secure and never shaken. At daybreak his help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn” (Psalm 46:4-5). Praise the Lord!
