āLord, show me your kindness and mercy, for these men oppose and oppress me all day long. Not a day goes by without somebody harassing me. So many in their pride trample me under their feet. But in the day that Iām afraid, I lay all my fears before you and trust in you with all my heartā (Psalm 56:1-3)
David composed this psalm when the Philistines captured him. Thatās an encouragement! He was opposed, oppressed, harassed and trampled upon. When fear set in, he did a powerful thing. āI lay all my fears before You.ā This is symbolic of surrender to God, a similar image of captured fighters laying down their weapons. In its place, he āpickedā up trust! āI⦠trust in you with all my heart.ā Whatās remarkable is how he began to display His trust. Psalm 56:4 now says: āWhat harm could a man bring to me? With God on my side, I will not be afraid of what comes. The roaring praises of God fill my heart as I trust His promises.ā Firstly, the knowledge of God on my side! God promises: āāI will never leave you, never! And I will not loosen my grip on your life!ā So, we can say with great confidence: āI know the Lord is for me and I will never be afraid of what people may do to me!ā (Hebrews 13:5-6). God is saying that He is enough. Secondly, as David trusted God, He filled his heart with the āroaring praises of God.ā Through praises, he continually plugged the holes of doubt and fear!
Today, are you opposed, oppressed, harassed or trampled upon? Oh! letās trust and praise God like David did! Heās kind and merciful. Amen.
