“For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendour and majesty are before Him; strength and glory are in His sanctuary” (Psalm 96:4-6)
The Spirit of God encourages us not to be overtaken by the systems of the world which are created by the men’s wisdom. In Exodus 1:9-10, Pharaoh made decisions because he feared the Jews. So, he said to his people: “There are way too many of these Israelites for us to handle. We’ve got to do something: Let’s devise a plan to contain them, because if there’s a war they would join our enemies, or just walk off and leave us.” Pharaoh’s godless goal was to create a stronghold to enslave others in the mindset of his system. But God’s word declares: “For all the gods of the nations are idols.” Not some but all the gods. The Message version says: “Pagan gods are mere tatters and rags.”
Behold our God in heaven, who made the heavens and who rules in the affairs of men. Now, because of Pharaoh’s fears, the Egyptians oppressed the Jews by “organized them into work-gangs and put them to hard labour under gang-foremen.” Yet “the harder the Egyptians worked them the more children the Israelites had—children everywhere!” Praise the Lord! “Splendour and majesty are before Him.” Let us look to and depend on God’s sure and secure wisdom in everything. 1 Corinthians 1:25 exhorts: “Human wisdom is so cheap, so impotent, next to the seeming absurdity of God. Human strength can’t begin to compete with God’s ‘weakness.’” Glory to God.
