God Knows Better

“When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea…” (Exodus 13:17-18)

We serve a good and living God (Hebrews 12:22), who know us and can guide on what is best for each of His children if we let Him. Jesus said: “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? So, if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:9-11). God knew what was ahead of the Israelites as they came out of Egypt, and decided not to let them take the shorter route. Why? He knew they weren’t ready for the trial through that route. “…God keeps His promise, and He will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, He will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out” (1 Corinthians 10:13). He is loving and faithful.

So, He “led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.” The road was longer, but it was better in His sight and will for them. Our Father protects and doesn’t want us to change our minds and turn to the world. Father, teach us to trust You and Your process for our lives. Amen.
