“Well, when I got as far as the city of Troas, the Lord gave me tremendous opportunities to preach the Gospel. But Titus, my dear brother, wasn’t there to meet me and I couldn’t rest, wondering where he was and what had happened to him. So, I said good-bye and went right on to Macedonia to try to find him” (2 Corinthians 2:12-13)

Who was Titus to Paul? Not only a partner in their work of ministry, but Paul called him a ‘dear brother.’ Despite the remarkable opportunities and the attending successes that stood before Paul, his heart was concerned about the state of his friend and partner, who he expected there. Paul said “the Lord gave me tremendous opportunities to preach the Gospel, BUT Titus, my dear brother, wasn’t there to meet me.” Yes, there was a massive door BUT where’s Titus?

Paul valued his relationships, a key attitude of successful people. One version says “he had no peace of mind,” not seeing Titus. Paul paused everything and he “went right on to Macedonia to try to find him.” He didn’t send others, but he went himself. Surely, Paul’s example affirms the scripture which says: “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). Again, scripture says: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” (Proverbs 17:17). Paul upheld both.

Paul looked out for them. We can learn from the example of Paul who learnt from the Lord Jesus Christ. After His resurrection from the dead, Jesus went and looked for his scattered disciples (John 21:1-4).
