“And the LORD said to Job: “Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer” (John 40:1-2)

Job had faced many losses and his health became poor. Seeing the situation, his wife sowed words of bitterness: “Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die!” (Job 2:9). She opened a door of accusation against God, and Job would inadvertently tow a path of seeking to defend himself, but finding fault with God. Are we in any way accusing God? In one of God’s replies to him (Job 38-41), He said: “Now stand up straight and answer my questions. Are you trying to prove that I am unjust— to put Me in the wrong and yourself in the right? Are you as strong as I am? Can your voice thunder as loud as Mine? If so, stand up in your honour and pride; clothe yourself with majesty and glory. Look at those who are proud; pour out your anger and humble them. Yes, look at them and bring them down; crush the wicked where they stand. Bury them all in the ground; bind them in the world of the dead. Then I will be the first to praise you and admit that you won the victory yourself” (Job 40:7-14).

Those words humbled Job, realizing the supremacy of God, and Job said: “I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me… I take back everything I said…” (Job 42:3,6). Indeed, 1 Corinthians 1:25 says: “For what seems to be God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and what seems to be God's weakness is stronger than human strength.” Are there words we should take back? In Job's repentance, he found God’s healing! Let praise arise to the Almighty, the faithful & just!
