“But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love” (1 Thessalonians 3:6)

Do you realise that your faith and love bring encouragement to others? Paul and his partners were facing trials and he became concerned about the believers. Then he received this news from Timothy that cheered him. “He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith” (1 Thessalonians 3:6-7). Our acts of love and faith are very tangible and a blessing in the lives of others. In Ephesians 1:15-16, Paul wrote: “That’s why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, I couldn’t stop thanking God for you—every time I prayed, I’d think of you and give thanks.” Hearing about their faith and love, Paul would not cease to thank God for them. Our firmness in the Lord, even in the midst of trials, brings encouragement to someone. Our love for the saints reminds others of the unending love of the Saviour.

Paul again expresses the same attitude in Colossians 1:3-4 saying: “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all the saints.” Faith and love! We may not always know it, but someone is standing in Christ because of your example. Father, help us to stand and keep knowing You better (Ephesian 1:17). Amen.
